According to the city of Palo Alto there are significant benefits to owning, operating and maintaining its utilities. They are as follows:

    • Local control and policy setting
    • High level of responsiveness and accountability to citizens and utility customers
    • Community values-driven programs and services
    • Return on investments to the City and community through annual transfers to the City's General Fund. (Last year Palo Alto Utility returned 2M$ to the General Fund.)
